Black Friday GPS deals

Okay, there’s not a whole lot of prognosticating or divining involved – Black Friday ads are posted all over the Web. But I can share a summary and some insights into what to expect. Here’s how its shaping up:

Black Friday GPS pricing

On the low end, several sites will have the TomTom ONE 130 for $79.99, but WalMart is reportedly going to have a TomTom for $59. No word on what model that is — perhaps the ONE 125. Regardless, the low end units are likely to have 3.5? screens and lack text-to-speech.

Garmin units will command a premium, as usual. You can expect to see the nuvi 205/205W going for around $90 to $100. The ever popular, wide-screen, text-to-speech, nuvi 255W should show up at several places for $120. There will be some bargains to be had on lifetime traffic units as well. And while they will be fewer in number, we should see some handheld deals too.

Best time to buy

I say this every year and so far it’s been true, but I am doubly convinced this year – I expect prices to be at their lowest during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Retailers got saddled with lots of unsold inventory last year and they are keeping their stocks low. I also expect to see more deals on Black Friday than Cyber Monday (those links will give you some idea of the deals I featured last year, though of course, prices have dropped since then).

Tracking GPS deals

The best way to watch this site for Black Friday GPS deals is to follow it on Twitter. You’ll get near-instantaneous notification as deals are posted. Otherwise, I suggest subscribing to our RSS feed (what’s this?), although there’s always a delay with RSS. Of course you could just go old school and refresh every so often. However you do it though, don’t miss these deals!
