Here’s a snippet from GPS Tracklog’s Garmin nuvi 285WT review:

The Garmin nüvi 285WTis one of the second-generation models in the nuvi 2×5 series, which I dubbed the “best entry level GPS on the market.” This series offers more mid-line features though; in addition to everything that made the 2×5 series a hit, the 285WT adds MSN Direct services and Bluetooth for hands-free cell phone use.

In past years, we’ve seen the best deals of the holiday season during the Thanksgiving / Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend. We have no reason to believe that this year will be any different; in fact, we expect it to be even more so. Fair warning; here are the deals set to expire at midnight:

Black Friday GPS deal predictions

Black Friday GPS deals

Okay, there’s not a whole lot of prognosticating or divining involved – Black Friday ads are posted all over the Web. But I can share a summary and some insights into what to expect. Here’s how its shaping up:

GPS Deals now on Twitter

GPS-Deals-TwitterA lot of the deals I post here can be fleeting, and RSS only updates so fast. So I’ve set up a GPS Deals Twitter account that I’ll now post all deals to, as soon as they go up here. I’m averaging less than one tweet a day, so there’s little following cost, and lots of money to be saved! Of course, I do expect things to pick up come Black Friday. So check it out and follow me at http://twitter.com/gpsdeal (yes, singular – that’s the best I could get; a suspended account had gpsdeals).

Where did all the deals go?

You may have noticed that there haven’t been many deals posted since Cyber Monday. Why? We’re not seeing any worth posting, that’s why. What’s happened is that all the online merchants were battling for those holiday weekend dollars, and now there is a lull when they can extract more money from unwary shoppers.

The busiest online shopping day of the year isn’t CyberMonday. It’s actually the Monday a week or two out from Christmas, probably December 15 this year. What does this mean for deals? Well, you can expect the sales to ramp back up by sometime next week. Of course, I could be totally wrong and end up posting a dozen deals later today. But I doubt it.

Oh, and if you’re seeing the “Homer Simpson box,” you can always check out our seductively named (not!) unexpired deals category. There’s always a link to it down near the end of the right sidebar. And don’t forget, there’s still one great “Cyber Week” GPS sale going on through Friday.

We have a winner!

A random drawing of entries was done this morning, and we now have a winner of the Navigon 7200T. Robert Griswold is the lucky fellow; he added comment number 83…

“I have been in the market for a GPS for some time and this site looks like a great place to find the best deals, which is good because price is a key determinant for me and I, like most consumers, want the best bang for my buck! That being said, please enter me into the contest for the Navigon 7200T. Also, I have subscribed to your RSS feed for a second entry, but more importantly for great deals on GPS units should I not win!”

Thanks again to Navigon for supplying the 7200T as the prize, and thanks to everyone who entered, subscribed and gave us some link love! Now don’t go away, ’cause we’ve got some great deals coming. And you don’t even have to wait till Black Friday. I expect to have a big surprise for everyone this Friday, so stay tuned.
