The Garmin nüvi 285WTis one of the second-generation models in the nuvi 2×5 series, which I dubbed the “best entry level GPS on the market.” This series offers more mid-line features though; in addition to everything that made the 2×5 series a hit, the 285WT adds MSN Direct services and Bluetooth for hands-free cell phone use.

Amazon Black Friday GPS deals

Amazon has a number of deals going today:

• The most interesting is this little widget (screen shot above; follow link for the real deal), which shows a slew of GPS Lightning Deals on the way. They appear to have a.m. and p.m. mixed up, so just watch the countdown clock for deals starting at 1 p.m. EST!
• The “deal of the day” is the Garmin nüvi 285WT for $129.99. This is a great price, but be aware that the MSN Direct service is going to go away in two more years.
• They have the touchscreen handheld Garmin Oregon 200 for $223.19.

I came across this GPS deals page at Amazon, with several items of interest on it. There’s no expiration date shown, so I don’t know how long it will last. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the product mix change either, and the prices will surely fluctuate. As of this posting, these are the deals:

Amazon has five Garmin nuvi models on sale for most of this month. The best deals (unless they change) are the nuvi 260W and the rarely seen nuvi 285WT. Unfortunately, as of this morning, Amazon is showing a one to two month shipping delay on the latter!
