Amazon has a number of deals going today:

  • The most interesting is this little widget (screen shot above; follow link for the real deal), which shows a slew of GPS Lightning Deals on the way. They appear to have a.m. and p.m. mixed up, so just watch the countdown clock for deals starting at 1 p.m. EST!
  • The “deal of the day” is the Garmin nüvi 285WT for $129.99. This is a great price, but be aware that the MSN Direct service is going to go away in two more years.
  • They have the touchscreen handheld Garmin Oregon 200 for $223.19.

$50 rebate on any Garmin Oregon handheld

Garmin is offering a $50 rebate (PDF) on any of its Oregon series handhelds. This offer is valid between February 27, 2009 and May 10, 2009. Postmark deadline is May 30, 2009. Limit 5 rebates per customer.

The Oregon series has a touch-screen interface and offers paperless geocaching capabilities across the entire product line. The rebate brings the Oregon 200 down to under $200 at some retailers. For more details on the entire Oregon line, read my Garmin Oregon 400t review.

Be sure to read the fine print, but here are some of the usual caveats:

Purchases made through online auctions, excluding direct purchases from authorized dealers, are not
eligible. EBay® purchases only valid if purchase is made from an authorized Garmin dealer. Refurbished or newly overhauled products do not qualify for the rebate.

Garmin Oregon 200 GPS
for $259.83 at REI.com.

I’m not sure how long this deal will last. This is a great touch screen handheld unit, ideal for geocachers and hikers. It has no detailed maps nor electronic compass. The latter is not a big deal, and there are lots of free maps out there if you don’t have a copy of Topo US.

Great deal on a member of the new Garmin touchscreen family — this is an entry level unit without a lot of bells and whistles, but you get the touch screen interface and paperless geocaching capabilities for a very low price.
